On December 10, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mykola Tochytskyi held political consultations with Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ireland Sonja Hyland.
Mykola Tochytskyi thanked Ireland for its consistent support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity at the bilateral level and within the UN framework.
The Deputy Foreign Minister briefed the Irish side about the situation near Ukraine’s borders and in the temporarily occupied territories against the backdrop of increasing Russian military build-up. He reaffirmed Ukraine’s commitment to political and diplomatic means of settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict, while noting positively the efforts of NATO and EU member states to de-escalate the situation.
The sides coordinated their further cooperation in international organizations, particularly during Ireland's non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council in 2021-2022.
They discussed preparations for the Eastern Partnership summit on December 15, 2021 in Brussels and agreed on Dublin’s continued support of the European integration aspirations of Ukraine.
The discussion covered also bilateral cooperation in trade, economic and visa areas. The sides confirmed their intention to organize a visit of Irish trade mission to Ukraine in 2022.
For reference: This was the 13th round of political consultations held in accordance with the Memorandum between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Ireland of July 5, 2005 (the previous round of consultations was held on November 25, 2019 in Dublin).
