On the occasion of the Human Rights Day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in cooperation with the State Institution "Ukrainian Institute" and the International Charitable Foundation "Izolyatsia" supported by USAID Ukraine program "Human Rights in Action" held a public presentation of the new multimedia resource "Izolyatsia: Must Speak" (https://izolyatsia.ui.org.ua/en/).
The new web-site, which has Ukrainian and English versions, tells about the transformations of the premises of the internationally known cultural fund "Izolyatsia" in the currently Russian-occupied Donetsk (located on the territory of the former insulation materials plant) into an illegal prison where detained people - citizens of Ukraine - are subject to the cruelest tortures.
Representatives of the foreign diplomatic missions and missions of the international organizations in Ukraine, public sector representatives, former political prisoners and relatives of current prisoners, human rights activists and media attended the event held to summarize the first year of "Izolyatsia: Must Speak" information campaign and discuss plans for its further implementation with the aim of raising awareness, including international, about these and other specific facts of human rights violations and crimes against humanity.
In his address to the audience, Petro Beshta, Director General of the Political Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, noted that the widespread international publicity of torture and other forms of violence and degrading treatment in the "Izolyatsia" and many similar facilities in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as well as in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, is an effective means of influence. "International attention is saving lives and helping to put an end to the torture of prisoners at such illegal prisons for their loyalty to their patriotic beliefs," he said. In this regard, he informed about the measures taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with its partners and called on foreign diplomats to take active and decisive coordinated steps for increase of the international pressure to close "Izolyatsia" and other so-called "places of imprisonment", to stop these horrible crimes and bring to justice those who commit them as soon as possible.
The audience of the event was also addressed by Yuriy Rud, Head of the Department for the Supervision of Criminal Proceedings Related to Crimes Committed in Armed Conflict, the Office of the Prosecutor General, Oksana Sarzhevska-Kravchenko, Director of the ICF "Izolyatsia", Mykhailo Hlybokyi, Development Director of the ICF «Izolyatsia» and the «Izone» Creative Community, as well as Oleksandra Matviychuk, Head of the Center for Civil Liberties Organization.
The trailer of a new documentary about the former prisoner of "Izolyatsia", journalist and public activist Stanislav Aseyev, English-language newsletter “Female Face of Donbass Hostages”, as well as the exhibition art project "Zazemlennia" / “The Grounding” (Soledar, Donetsk region) of the ICF “Izolyatsia” were presented.
