Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and 1+1 Media launched a special video on the catastrophic environmental consequences caused by the Russian invasion
22 April 2023 11:00

For Earth Day, celebrated every year on April 22, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the 1+1 Media Group launched a special video about the catastrophic consequences for the ecology of the whole world caused by Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine.

The video's main idea is to emphasize again that the Russian Federation is causing irreparable damage to the entire planet by its actions, and war is not eco-friendly.

"We sort, we recycle, and we refuse. We choose eco, green, and cruelty-free. We change, switch to an alternative, put it on a second time, and reuse it. We preserve, plant, and study. But this is not enough while the war is going on in Ukraine. The Russian invasion is fraught with catastrophic consequences for the ecology of Ukraine and the whole world," the video says.

A special video with the appeal "Stop Russia to save the Earth" will be distributed through diplomatic missions, as well as Ukrainian- and English-language platforms of the 1+1 Media Group and resources of international partners.

"Today, not only our country is under threat, but the very foundations of the world order, security system and international law. Russia disregards all existing international agreements in the field of environmental protection during military conflicts. Russian troops not only kill Ukrainians and destroy Ukrainian cities and villages, but also commit ecocide, destroying the unique ecosystems of our country, hundreds of unique species of plants and animals. All this happens right in the center of Europe. Nature protection is one of the important elements of President Zelenskyy's Peace Formula. We call on our partners to join efforts and stop Russian ecocide," - commented the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The initiators of the action call on everyone to share the video in Ukrainian and English on social media.

"Every day, Russia causes damage to our country, conducting the tactics of burnt earth. By shelling, destroying, and mining everything in its path, the aggressor country is bringing society closer to ecological disaster. And it is not only about the consequences for the territory of Ukraine, but the whole world. We must stop this. That is why, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we made a video to once again draw the attention of the international community to the war in Ukraine," - 1+1 Media says.

Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22, uniting people from different parts of the world around environmental issues.
