The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and "Seeds for Ukraine" will help Ukrainians in the de-occupied territories grow crops with international support
25 April 2023 10:00

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has renewed its partnership with the "Seeds for Ukraine" initiative to provide households in rural areas in the de-occupied territories of Ukraine with seeds necessary for sowing.

Since 2022, this joint project has already helped more than 10,000 households in regions affected by Russian aggression obtain seeds and grow crops.

Currently, Ukrainian rural communities are dealing with unprecedented difficulties due to Russian troops destroying farm equipment, killing animals, stealing grain, and a sizable area of mine-contaminated land.

The project is aimed at helping Ukrainians overcome these challenges with international support. As part of the initiative, foreign entrepreneurs, communities, farmers, and agricultural companies, with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Seeds for Ukraine, send seed sets to Ukrainian households.

In 2023, the initiative will focus on helping people in liberated territories and centers for internally displaced persons. The goal is to support 100,000 families and communities in the regions of Ukraine most affected by Russian aggression and also to install 100 greenhouses in the de-occupied territories of Kharkiv and Kherson regions, where the problem of mined territories is particularly acute.

The famous Ukrainian tennis player and winemaker Serhii Stakhovsky, who currently defends Ukraine in the ranks of the Armed Forces, became the ambassador of the project.

"Seeds for Ukraine" is about humanity and solidarity. The idea is for people to be able to grow their own food, provide for their families, and share with others. You can do a lot by sending just a few packets of seeds or helping to set up a greenhouse," he said.

During the year of implementation of the project, the world showed great solidarity: communities, farmers, and entrepreneurs from Europe, the USA, Canada, and Japan have already supported the initiative and provided assistance to Ukrainian communities.

The project is implemented in cooperation with the Kyiv School of Economics, the Nova Poshta company, and numerous volunteer organizations that help deliver the necessary seeds directly to people in war-affected communities.

Detailed information on how you can join is available on the website: https://seeds.kse.ua. Together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and volunteers, the website of the initiative has been translated into seven languages.
