The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine, with funding from Germany, has procured and provided the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with uninterrupted power supply units (UPS) and accumulator batteries. With a cumulative value of US$60,000 (UAH 2.2 million), this delivery of 83 UPS units and 104 accumulator batteries equips the Ministry with essential backup power resources to withstand future attacks on the capital’s power grid.
Anton Demokhin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, highlighted that the new equipment will help mitigate the risks of disruptions to the Ministry's operations in the events of emergency power outages, which Ukrainians have repeatedly faced after the full-scale invasion by Russia. "2022 has been the most challenging test for Ukraine's forces, energy systems, government, and all citizens. Together, we are doing our best to ensure resilience of state institutions and information systems in the most severe conditions," emphasized Anton Demokhin.
Anka Feldhusen, the German Ambassador to Ukraine, emphasized the crucial role of Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordinating aid and diplomacy with countries worldwide, operating tirelessly around the clock. Recognizing that any interruption to their work is simply not an option, she stated, "By providing essential backup power resources, we are ensuring that this vital work can continue uninterrupted, even in the face of potential attacks on the capital's power grid. This collaboration between Germany, UNDP, and Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirms the shared commitment to upholding global diplomacy, underscoring the unwavering support of Germany and UNDP for Ukraine's diplomatic endeavours.”
Christophoros Politis, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Ukraine, extolled the importance of this project in solidifying Ukraine's crisis management capabilities. "The accumulator batteries and uninterrupted power supply units, funded by the Government of Germany, represent an important element of UNDP’s support to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ functioning in emergencies and ensuring sustained provision of services,” he said. “This also embodies the joint efforts of international partners and Ukraine in advancing national development and security."
At a time when energy security and operational continuity have become paramount, this project contributes significantly to fortifying Ukraine's infrastructural resilience. It is the result of robust international partnerships that reinforce a shared vision of a resilient Ukraine capable of responding effectively to crisis situations.
