MFA of Ukraine held political consultations with MFA of Romania

On July 6, political consultations between Foreign Ministries of Ukraine and Romania were held in Kyiv.

In the framework of the consultations Deputy Foreign Minister Yevhen Perebiynis, Deputy Foreign Minister Mykola Tochytskyi and State Secretary Oleksandr Bankov held separate meetings with State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania Iulian Fota.

The parties discussed a wide range of priority bilateral issues, as well as cooperation in the international arena.

There was a substantive exchange of views on several current issues on the bilateral agenda, in particular on the organization of high-level visits and meetings in the nearest future, as well as the implementation of joint projects in the fields of economy, trade, energy, digitalization, countering disinformation, development of border infrastructure and other spheres of mutual interest. During the consultations, the sides discussed the status and prospects of ensuring rights of the Ukrainian national minority in Romania and the Romanian national minority in Ukraine.

Particular emphasis was placed on the issue of providing humanitarian support to temporarily displaced Ukrainian citizens who are in Romania. Iulian Fota assured that appropriate support would be provided to Ukraine and its citizens as long as it is necessary.

During the discussion of Romania's participation in the reconstruction and restoration of Ukraine the Ukrainian side emphasized the importance of Romania choosing a specific project and implementing it at the current stage.

The sides discussed the cooperation in the implementation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Peace formula, as well as the need to increase sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation and hold it accountable for its aggression crime against Ukraine

During the meeting Yevhen Perebiynis and Iulian Fota paid special attention to the implementation of Ukraine's strategic course for joining the EU and NATO. Yevhen Perebiynis informed about Ukraine's implementation of the seven recommendations of the European Commission and expressed hope that the EU will adopt a decision on starting the pre-accession negotiations with Ukraine until the end of 2023.

Yevhen Perebiynis briefed the partners on the Ukrainian side expectations concerning the upcoming NATO Summit in Vilnius. The Romanian side assured its full support on this issue.

The Ukrainian side expressed its gratitude to Romania for the consistent political support and practical assistance provided to Ukraine since the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

The parties noted the successful interaction of Ukraine and Romania within the international organizations, namely UN, OSCE, Council of Europe, and defined priority directions for further cooperation in the international arena.
