On April 23, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleksandr Mischenko held phone talks with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland Marek Prawda.
During the conversation, two diplomats discussed current issues of Ukrainian-Polish relations. The interlocutors paid special attention to the bilateral dialogue in the field of national memory and noted the importance of continuing constructive cooperation in this area. In this context, the parties positively noted the agreement of the Working Party of the Ministries of Culture of Ukraine and Poland to begin exhumation work in the village of Puzhnyky in the Ternopil region on April 24 with the participation of experts from both countries.
Oleksandr Mischenko drew the attention of his Polish colleague to the illegal replacement of the memorial plaque on the mass grave of UPA soldiers on Monastyr Mountain in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship of Poland. He emphasized that such an act of vandalism is a deliberate provocation that plays into the hands of the Russian aggressor and must be resolutely jointly condemned by the parties.
In his turn, the Polish diplomat confirmed the position of official Warsaw in condemning this act of vandalism and told that Polish law enforcement agencies and relevant local authorities are taking the necessary measures to reveal the circumstances of the aforementioned provocation and bring those responsible for its commission to justice.
