On December 4, 2024 Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko held a meeting with Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Ukraine Pavel Vízdal.

Olexandr Mischenko expressed his gratitude for the assistance provided by Slovakia to Ukraine amidst ongoing Russian armed aggression. He highlighted the contribution of the Slovak Side to humanitarian demining and supporting for the Ukrainian energy sector.

The Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of implementing the Peace Formula by the President of Ukraine as the only platform on which negotiations should take place to restore a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace in Ukraine.

Olexandr Mischenko also called for supporting Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic aspirations and stressed that Ukraine's invitation to join NATO is a reliable security guarantee not only for our country, but also for the European continent.

Strengthening solidarity on isolating the aggressor state was a separate topic of the conversation. The Deputy Foreign Minister highlighted how Kremlin uses visits by foreign officials and politicians to Russia in order to avoid Russia's international isolation in connection with the criminal aggression against Ukraine. In this context, attention was drawn to the Kremlin's attempts to ensure the presence of leaders of European countries to the celebration of Victory Day in Russia on May 9, 2025.

The Sides discussed particular steps to deepen political dialogue and intensify interparliamentary relations. They underlined the importance of completing the formation of a friendship group with Ukraine in the Slovak Parliament.

Within the preparatory work for the next round of consultations between the Governments of Ukraine and Slovakia, particular attention was drawn to the key energy and infrastructure projects as a part of the implementation of the Roadmap for Joint Action. Among the positive results, it was noted that a new railway passenger route Kyiv - Bratislava is to be launched on December 15.

The Sides reaffirmed their interest in further strengthening the legal framework for bilateral relations and discussed in detail the preparation of a number of priority draft agreements to be signed in the nearest future.

For his part, Pavel Vízdal expressed satisfaction with the intensification of bilateral partnership in all areas and assured that the Slovak Republic is determined to continue providing assistance to Ukraine.

Separately, an algorithm of actions was agreed on for the formation of contacts at the highest level between Ukraine and Slovakia for the first half of 2025.
