On 12 September, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleksandr Mishchenko held a meeting with Political State Secretary of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland Pasi Rajala.
The interlocutors discussed current issues on the bilateral agenda, including preparations for upcoming high-level visits.
Oleksandr Mishchenko thanked Finland for its consistent support for Ukraine and underscored the importance of further strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities. In this context, the parties discussed further military assistance to Ukraine from Finland, as well as Finland’s contributions to the PURL initiative, including for the procurement of additional missiles for Ukraine’s air defence systems.
Particular attention was paid to strengthening Ukraine’s energy security ahead of the upcoming heating season. Oleksandr Mishchenko expressed gratitude to the Finnish side for the assistance provided in the energy sector and called for continued support for Ukraine’s energy sector amid ongoing Russian attacks.
The parties also discussed developments in the peace process and the importance of continued coordination with international partners to achieve a just and lasting peace for Ukraine. Oleksandr Mishchenko stressed that diplomatic efforts must be underpinned by increased support for Ukraine and stronger pressure on Russia.
The interlocutors also paid particular attention to Finland’s support for Ukraine’s accession as a full member of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF).
The parties agreed to continue close coordination on current issues of the bilateral and international agendas.
