On 16 September, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko held a meeting with the Grand Hospitaller of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of Malta, Josef Blotz.
The Deputy Minister expressed gratitude for the long-standing and substantial humanitarian activities of the Order in Ukraine, which include support for internally displaced persons, assistance to children, the elderly, and wounded servicemen, as well as the supply of medical equipment.
Special attention parties paid to the Order’s initiatives aimed at preserving Ukraine’s cultural and spiritual heritage, as well as launching new projects, in particular in the area of providing psychological support to both military personnel and civilians.
Olexandr Mischenko emphasized that, under the conditions of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine is in particular need of support from international partners. In this context, the activities of the Sovereign Order of Malta represent an important manifestation of international solidarity with the Ukrainian people resisting Russian aggression.
The parties discussed the possible participation of a high representative of the Sovereign Order of Malta in the Ukraine Mine Action Conference, which will take place on 22–25 October 2025 in Tokyo, Japan.
Both sides agreed to continue close cooperation in providing assistance to the most vulnerable groups of the population, as well as in implementing projects in the fields of healthcare, education, and social protection.
