Today, at the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Latvia, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko, on behalf of Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha, presented the Ukrainian state award — the Order “For Courage”, III degree, conferred by the decree of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as well as the Honorary Badge of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “Combatant Cross” to the family of fallen serviceman and citizen of the Republic of Latvia Edgars Platonovs.

The awards were received by the fallen defender’s mother Regina Platonova, brother Aivars Platonovs, and sister Ilze Glovecka.

During the ceremony, Olexandr Mischenko expressed his sincere condolences to the family and stressed that Ukraine will never forget the sacrifice of Latvian hero Edgars Platonovs, who gave his life fighting against the Russian aggressor on Ukrainian soil.

The Deputy Minister noted that Edgars Platonovs consciously chose to stand in defence of Ukraine, fully aware of all the risks and dangers of war. His act stands as a powerful example of personal courage and genuine solidarity between the Latvian and Ukrainian peoples in our common struggle against our common enemy — the terrorist state of Russia.

Olexandr Mischenko also emphasized that Ukraine highly values Latvia’s comprehensive support in countering Russia’s armed aggression and honors with deep gratitude the memory of all those who gave their lives for the freedom of Ukraine and the peaceful future of Europe.
