In response to media inquiries on the detention of journalist Denys Ivashin in Belarus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine states the following:
“Journalist and volunteer Denys Ivashyn, who is a Belarusian citizen with a status of a foreign Ukrainian, has been drawing the world’s attention to the crimes committed in the course of the Russian aggression against Ukraine. This is why Ukraine's MFA is concerned to learn about his detention, as well as many Ukrainians, who have been following his journalistic and volunteer work. The ministry is convinced that journalistic activity can not be and should not be a reason for persecution. His detention is even more concerning taking into account further attacks on the freedom of speech, endangering the lives and well-being of journalists in Belarus. We demand the trial to be transparent and fair. We will continue to thoroughly monitor all further steps in his regard by Belarussian authorities”.
