On Europe Day, May 9, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine launched the #ThankYouEurope campaign to express gratitude to the citizens of European Union member states for their support of Ukraine during Russia’s full-scale invasion. The campaign of gratitude, initiated by Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha, will run throughout May 2025.
The European Union continues to provide Ukraine with comprehensive support – political, military, economic, and humanitarian. To date, the EU and its member states have provided around €144 billion in aid to Ukraine. To show appreciation for this support, the MFA of Ukraine, in cooperation with public institutions, Ukrainian communities in the EU, and Ukrainian companies, launched a series of social media activities and organized events across the EU.
From May 9 to 11, Ukrainian diplomatic missions in EU countries, together with Ukrainians, organized public activities, handed out printed postcards and posters, held cultural events, and carried out good deeds for local communities – including planting trees. Civil society organizations and Ukrainian businesses with a presence in the EU also joined the campaign.
With the support of Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways), major railway stations across Ukraine displayed the message “Thank you, Europe!” on information boards, in audio announcements, and on lounge video screens at Kyiv’s Central Railway Station.
Ukrainian fast food restaurant chain Lviv Croissants displayed messages of gratitude in their locations in Czechia, France, Poland, and Slovakia. Throughout May, Ukrainian logistics company Nova Post will share greetings in over 100 locations across Czechia, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Spain.
The social media campaign, marked with the hashtags #ThankYouEurope and #EuropeDay2025, was joined by the Ukrainian government, businesses, educational institutions, and media.
The gratitude campaign will continue throughout May – Ukrainians are invited to join in various ways: say “thank you” to your EU partners and friends, participate in community activities (such as cleanups, tree planting where permitted, or cultural events), or give small yet meaningful gifts, like postcards.
