On 26 November 2020, political consultations were held between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Senegalese of the Republic of Senegal.

The key topic of the consultations was steps to intensify the development of trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Ukraine and Senegal.

The delegations agreed to organize bilateral visits of ministers of agriculture, economy, transport, education and energy in the near future.

The Senegalese side expressed interest in importing Ukrainian agricultural products, mining and construction equipment. Senegal is also interested in attracting Ukrainian specialists to participate in infrastructure projects, primarily in energy sector.

During the consultations, the parties agreed to speed up the consideration of draft agreements driving cooperation between Ukraine and Senegal in justice, education, military-technical cooperation and trade.

In 2019, bilateral trade turnover between Ukraine and Senegal amounted to USD 118.89 million. Exports amounted to USD 117.12 million, and imports – USD 1.77 million. Positive balance for Ukraine is USD 115.35 million. The Ukraine’s main exports are ferrous metals (84.6%), cereals (6.2%), fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin (4.6%), fertilizers (3.0%). Main import items are plastics, polymeric materials (37.5%), fish (24.4%), vegetables (3.5%), edible fruits and nuts (2.7%).
