In his telephone conversation with Deputy PM, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov of Turkmenistan, Minister Kuleba pointed out that Turkmenistan is Ukraine’s vital partner in the Central Asia.
The parties stressed the importance of an intensive political dialogue between the two countries on high and highest levels with a focus on promoting trade and widening the scope of mutually beneficial business projects.
Ukraine’s FM urged for better cooperation between the foreign ministries of both nations and proposed a meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission for Economic and Cultural Cooperation.
In 2019, trade between the countries totaled US$137.89 mln with Ukrainian exports at US$54.93 mln, and imports from Turkmenistan at US$82.96 mln.
Two Ukrainian companies, Altcom and Interbudmontazh, were engaged in several projects in Turkmenistan, that included construction of roads, bridges and sewage and communications tunnel in Ashgabat.
Foreign ministers of both countries previously met in 2016 within the 71th UN General Assembly.
