On April 11, 2024 an expert discussion of Ukraine's key communication priorities in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) was held.

The event was attended by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Iryna Borovets, as well as Ukrainian diplomats and more than 20 experts from government and civil society organizations.

Opening the event, the Deputy Minister outlined the key tasks of the Ministry set out in the draft Communication Strategy: Ukraine - LAC States for 2024-2026, which aims to strengthen partnerships and build effective communication between Ukraine and Latin American countries.

"Developing a comprehensive communication strategy is a logical continuation of Ukraine's efforts to increase cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean. This is hard work aimed not at short-term effects but at creating a clear roadmap for effective communication with the countries of the region," said Iryna Borovets.

In addition, the event was attended by former National Security Advisor and High Commissioner for Peace of Colombia and founder of the NGO Aguanta Ucrania ("Hold on, Ukraine"), Sergio Jaramillo. He spoke about the successful organization of an information campaign in the LAC supporting Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression.

"Although the continent of Latin America is geographically far from Ukraine, Latin Americans are mentally very close to Ukrainians," the expert noted. He shared his observations that the LAC countries have a great potential to develop closer cooperation with Ukraine, as our countries are jointly moving towards freedom and democracy.

During the discussion, the participants focused on basic approaches and expert recommendations for Ukraine's strategic communications in the LAC region. Ukraine's priorities in the region remain to gain broader support for these countries in the international arena, diversify export markets, and expand its diplomatic presence.
