On 28December 2020, Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Vasyl Bodnar took part in the 36-th meeting of the Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs of GUAM Member States.
While discussing security situation in the region, Deputy Minister noted that today`s lack of security and trust was a direct consequence of Russia's destructive policy, which violated the norms and principles of international law. He stressed that Ukraine consistently supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Moldova. Vasyl Bodnar reiterated the importance of one-voice policy of GUAM Member States on the international arena.
Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of coordinating international efforts to address the COVID-19 pandemic, and noted that geopolitical reality in the region was changing. “GUAM must develop a new strategy based on new ideas, projects and initiatives”, the Deputy Minister said.
Vasyl Bodnar underlined the need for continuing implementation of the flagship projects related to the GUAM Transport Corridor and Free Trade Area, particularly, Trade and Transport Facilitation Project, Digital Trade Hub and other.
Deputy Foreign Minister also noted that the GUAM Transport Corridor would be developed as a part of the European network in cooperation with the European Commission using the mechanisms of the Eastern Partnership.
The Council approved the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between UNODC and GUAM; Cooperation Program between GUAM and Israel; the GUAM Consular Convention; the GUAM Communication strategy and Rules of Preparation of Declarations and Statements by the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM.
On 1 January 2021, Georgia starts its Chairmanship in the Organization.
