On 7 September Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis received copies of credentials from the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ireland to Ukraine Orla Mc Breen.

Yevhen Perebyinis congratulated the Ambassador on the start of her diplomatic mission in Ukraine and expressed gratitude to the government and people of Ireland for their consistent political, financial and humanitarian support for Ukraine amid Russia’s full-scale military aggression.

The Deputy Minister noted the significant strengthening of the Ukrainian-Irish cooperation in recent years, in particular the intensification of political dialogue at both the highest and senior levels, as well as Ireland’s important contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities and resilience.

The Deputy Minister especially noted Ireland’s energy assistance to Ukraine, which is of particular importance ahead of the winter season. In this context, Yevhen Perebyinis expressed gratitude for Ireland’s recent contribution of EUR 25 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.

During the meeting, the sides also discussed Ireland’s continued support for Ukraine’s European integration, particularly in the context of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2026. Yevhen Perebyinis expressed hope that Ireland would help advance the accession negotiations and facilitate the opening of all negotiating clusters by the end of the year.

Special attention was also paid to further strengthening of sanctions pressure on Russia. The Deputy Minister noted Ireland’s consistent support for the EU’s sanctions policy and stressed the importance of further joint steps to effectively counter Russia’s military-industrial complex and prevent sanctions circumvention.
