On 20 June, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis received copies of the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador of Iceland to Ukraine H.E. Mr Hannes Heimisson.
The Deputy Minister noted the high level of bilateral political dialogue and thanked Iceland for its military, financial and humanitarian assistance in the context of countering russian military aggression.
For his part, Hannes Heimisson reaffirmed his country's readiness to continue providing comprehensive assistance to Ukraine and to strengthen cooperation between Kyiv and Reykjavik.
Yevhen Perebyinis and Hannes Heimisson also discussed the beginning of the work of the Special Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iceland in Ukraine. In this context, he noted the decision of the Icelandic government to close the embassy in Moscow and significantly reduce the russian diplomatic presence in Reykjavik, which is an important example of diplomatic isolation of the aggressor state.
The Deputy Minister expressed his gratitude for Iceland's active position and leadership during its chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and its support for Ukraine's international initiatives.
