On 16th June the Ukrainian-German political consultations took place in Berlin, co-chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis and State Secretary of the German Federal Foreign Office Geza Andreas von Geyr.
During the consultations, the sides discussed the current state and prospects for developing the strategic partnership between Ukraine and Germany, the implementation of bilateral agreements, and key issues of security, economic cooperation, energy, culture, and Ukraine's European integration.
Yevhen Perebyinis expressed gratitude to Germany for its leadership role in providing military and technical assistance to Ukraine. Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, total German support has exceeded €64 billion. He emphasized the dynamic development of bilateral relations, aimed at strengthening the resilience of both states and security across Europe.
Special attention was paid to the implementation of the Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Ukraine and Germany. The sides discussed new formats of cooperation and identified shared priorities in key areas of interaction.
Energy security was an important topic of discussion. Participants discussed Ukraine's preparations for the upcoming heating season and the continued support for Ukraine's energy sector. It was noted that in previous years Germany provided over €1.2 billion in support of Ukraine's energy industry.
The sides also emphasized the importance of fostering bilateral people-to-people contacts and cultural cooperation. Yevhen Perebyinis highlighted active preparations for the Ukrainian-German Cross-Cultural Season scheduled for 2027–2028, affirming that the strategic partnership extends beyond security and economic dimensions to encompass cultural and humanitarian ties as well.
Deputy Minister expressed gratitude for Germany's support in facilitating the opening of the first EU negotiating cluster and stressed the importance of opening all remaining clusters without delay to accelerate Ukraine's full membership.
The German side, for its part, reaffirmed Germany's unwavering commitment to providing Ukraine with sustained military, political, and humanitarian support in the fight against Russia's armed aggression.
