On March 16, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis met with Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland Thomas Byrne, who visited Ukraine as part of Ireland’s international engagements marking St. Patrick’s Day.

Yevhen Perebyinis noted Thomas Byrne’s latest visit to Ukraine as an important sign of solidarity and support from Ireland, and highly praised Ireland’s principled and consistent position in support of Ukraine in countering Russian aggression.

During the meeting, the parties paid particular attention to the further development of bilateral relations, including the implementation of the Ukraine–Ireland Partnership Roadmap through 2030, as well as Ukraine’s European integration.

The Deputy Minister expressed gratitude to the Irish side for its consistent support of the EU enlargement policy and voiced hope for Ireland’s active role during its Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2026.

The parties also discussed current issues surrounding the peace process. Yevhen Perebyinis noted Ireland’s participation in the “Coalition of the Willing” and stressed that Russia’s systematic attacks on civilian targets and critical infrastructure in Ukraine demonstrate its lack of willingness to achieve peace.

The interlocutors also emphasized the need for continued sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation and the importance of preventing sanctions circumvention through third countries.

For his part, Thomas Byrne reaffirmed Ireland’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and assured of Ireland’s readiness to further develop Ukrainian-Irish partnership in political, security, energy, and other areas.
