On 14 September Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis met with members of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, as well as representatives of UK political parties.

Yevhen Perebyinis thanked the parliamentarians for the United Kingdom’s consistent military, financial, political and diplomatic support for Ukraine amid Russia’s ongoing aggression.

During the discussion on further support for Ukraine ahead of the winter period, the Deputy Minister underscored the critical importance of supplying air defence systems and interceptor missiles. He also called for increased support for Ukraine’s energy system, given the high chance of further large-scale Russian attacks against Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.

Yevhen Perebyinis also urged the British side to step up sanctions pressure on Russia, stressing that this would, first and foremost, strengthen the United Kingdom’s own security and send a clear deterrent signal against potential Russian military aggression towards European countries.

Chair of the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee Emily Thornberry emphasised the historically close ties between the Ukrainian and British peoples and stated: “We will do everything in our power. We stand together with Ukraine, and Ukraine will prevail over Russian aggression.”

The British parliamentarians unanimously reaffirmed their shared commitment to continued close coordination in the political, defence, economic, energy and sanctions fields in order to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
