On 23 July, 2024 Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis met with advisers of the High Level Advisory Group of the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) on Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
The meeting at the MFA of Ukraine was attended by Alar Streimann (Estonia), Katarina Areskoug and Elsa Håstad (Sweden) as well as Stefán Haukur Jóhannesson (Iceland). In total, the Group, initiated by Sweden, consists of 11 former high-ranking officials from countries with experience of preparation and accession to the EU, namely: Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland.
Yevhen Perebyinis stressed that the experience of the Group's members in the EU institutions and in the negotiating delegations of their countries is of great interest to Ukraine in the context of the EU accession negotiations that have started in June this year.
The parties agreed to establish working contacts and maintain close cooperation between the MFA and the members of the Group, in particular in terms of sharing experience in the implementation of reforms and adapting Ukrainian legislation to the EU acquis communautaire.
