On July 12, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Yevhen Perebyinis, held a meeting with the delegation of the Committee on EU Affairs of the Riigikogu (Parliament) of the Estonian Republic, headed by chairwoman Liisa-Lee Pakosta.
During the meeting, attention was paid to the implementation of Ukraine's strategic plan for joining the EU and NATO. In particular, Yevgen Perebyinis informed his interlocutors about the status of Ukraine's implementation of the recommendations of the European Commission and also expressed hope that the European Union would adopt a decision to start the pre-accession negotiations with Ukraine by the end of 2023.
Representatives of the Parliament of Estonia expressed full solidarity and support for the European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of our country and emphasized the need for the EU and Alliance members to take decisive steps to bring Ukraine closer to EU and NATO membership.
The parties also discussed the current security situation and Ukraine's needs in connection with Russia's full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine. Yevhen Perebyinis expressed his gratitude to the Estonian parliamentarians for the military and technical assistance provided to Ukraine and noted Estonia's initiative to finance the purchase of weapons and ammunition for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as well as directing confiscated Russian assets to the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
Parties also emphasized the importance of strengthening sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation and discussed the prospects of bringing Russian war criminals to justice, in particular in the context of the establishment of the Special Tribunal for the crime of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
