On July 12, a working discussion was held in Berlin as a part of the second working day of the Ukrainian-German seminar on strategic communications. On behalf of the Ukrainian side, the Special Representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa, Maksym Subkh took part in the event online.
The Ukrainian diplomat briefed representatives of the German diplomatic corps on Ukraine's main priorities in Africa, achievements and further plans to establish relations with African partners, in particular by opening new Ukrainian diplomatic missions.
The Special Representative underlined the existence of a long-standing historical connection between Ukraine and the liberation struggle of the African peoples, as well as the implementation of infrastructure, economic, educational and other projects on the African continent since the 1970s. Ukraine is actively countering Russia's disinformation and manipulations, by which Moscow is trying to monopolize this historical heritage and use it in order to create an image of a fighter against "Western influence",
The Ukrainian diplomat drew attention to the threats to food security caused by the Russian aggression and problems in the supply of Ukrainian grain to world markets, particularly Africa. In this context, he noted the important role of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy's "Grain from Ukraine" initiative and thanked Germany for its participation in this humanitarian program. Maksym Subkh also noted that the continued functioning of the Black Sea Grain Initiative is an important component of preventing a rise in food prices and the worsening of the problem of hunger in Africa.
Maksym Subkh noted that Russia has invested large resources in subversive informational activities. This requires coordinated efforts between Ukrainian and European, in particular German, partners for systematic work in order to eradicate Russian propaganda and disinformation from the minds of African politicians and the public, as well as to disseminate objective data, including on Russian armed aggression against Ukraine.
