Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin met Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy issues James Appathurai during his visit to Brussels.
At the meeting the sides discussed top issues of Ukraine-NATO relations, the implementation of the Annual National Programme in 2011, the international security issues, including efforts of the international community in Afghanistan and Libya. It was emphasized that the recent liquidation of the Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden should not draw away the attention from successful international efforts to build a sovereign, democratic, developed and safe Afghanistan. In the context of the ongoing military campaign in Libya, the representative of the Alliance noted the unity of the international coalition and special attention that NATO's partners pay to avoid civilian casualties during operation “Unified Protector”.
The counterparts also discussed the questions related to planning and conducting priority actions in the partnership between NATO and Ukraine during the current year, including meetings of NATO-Ukraine Commission.
