“ Ukraine is interested in successful process of transferring responsibility for security in Afghanistan to the local government and will help it logistically and by facilitating the training of Afghan personnel”, said the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in Bonn (Germany) where he participates in the International Conference on Afghanistan.
Currently Ukraine provides an air corridor for the operation of international forces in Afghanistan, helps in de-mining of the territory, as well as medical treatment of inhabitants of this country. According to the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, democratic and stable Afghanistan means elimination of the terrorist threat and large-scale illicit drug trafficking, which is seen as a reason of spreading drug addiction in Ukraine. These aspects constitute a direct interest of the Ukrainian citizens to the Afghan issues.
In the framework of this international conference, which is the largest international event being held in Germany since the Second World War, Minister Gryshchenko is going to have over a dozen of bilateral meetings, most of which will be focused on preparation of the Ukraine – EU summit and ensuring support of European aspirations of Ukraine.
