On November 24, 2011 Yevgen Mykytenko, Special Representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa, held political consultations in Beirut with Wafik Rheimi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants of the Lebanese Republic
The consultations took place within the framework of the Second Session of the Ukrainian-Lebanese Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.
The parties discussed the issues of intensification of Ukrainian-Lebanese political dialogue, cooperation within the United Nations and other international organizations, situation in the Middle East and North Africa.
Special emphasis was laid on the assessment of the condition and prospects of development of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, taking into account that over the past years Lebanon has turned to be one of Ukraine’s leading trading partners in the Middle East (Ukrainian export to Lebanon for the last ten months exceeded 1 billion US Dollars).
The interlocutors exchanged views on the steps which would be expedient to mark in 2012 the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Taking part in the consultations was Volodymyr Koval, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Lebanese Republic.
