On September 8, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin met with the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks, who is on a working visit to Ukraine.
During the meeting there were discussed issues of monitoring human rights violations in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea after its temporary occupation by the Russian Federation, and in Luhansk and Donetsk regions as a result of activities of terrorist groups supported by Russia.
Particular attention was paid to the issue of release of Ukrainian citizens, illegally detained in the Russian Federation, especially of Nadia Savchenko and Oleg Sentsov.
The sides discussed the possibility of the Commissioner’s involvement to address the issue of imprisoned Ukrainian citizens who are in places of detention in the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
