On 11 June 2010 Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostyantyn Gryshchenko met with Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union Dr. Hamadoun Touré. The most important issues of Ukraine's cooperation with ITU were discussed during the meeting. In particular, the Minister reiterated Ukraine’s interest in further involvement of the ITU to facilitating Ukraine's transition to the digital television, in paticular as part of country’s Euro-2012 preparations. Minister Gryshchenko also reiterated Ukraine’s interest in hosting more international events under the ITU auspices.
The Secretary General expressed his deep appreciation for the activities of Ukraine as member of the ITU Board as well as his readiness to further deepen cooperation with our country. He also congratulated Ukraine on the rapid development of its communications industry, recognizing country’s lead in the field of mobile communications among the CIS countries, according to the recent ITU analysis.
The sides also discussed implementation of the decisions of the World Summit on the Information Society, especially the ones related to strengthening cyber-security and providing assistance for developing countries in overcoming “digital gap”. Furthermore, they exchanged views on the preparations for the ITU 2010 Plenipotentiary Conference (04-22 October 2010, Mexico), where ITU leadership, member-States of the ITU Council and members of the Radio Regulations Board will be elected.
