On May 5th the First Deputy Minister of the Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Head of the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO Volodymyr Khandogiy met with his Italian colleague the Head of the National Commission of Italy for UNESCO Giovanni Puglisi. During the meeting the sides discussed the questions regarding the preparation of the joint project “Fortified settlements on Genoa commercial roots. From the Mediterranean to the Black Sea” in order to include the national monuments into the List of the world heritage of UNESCO.

A special attention was dedicated to the perspectives of Ukrainian and Italian collaboration in the framework of the activities of the institutions of UNESCO, including the possibility of supporting by Italy the candidacy of Ukraine at the elections to UNESCO Executive Council for 2011-2015, which would take place during the 36 session of the General Conference of UNESCO in 2011.

The sides confirmed their readiness to support an active dialogue and a high level of cooperation in the framework of the general interests of the national policy in the sphere of education, science, culture and communication according to the UNESCO activities universal strategy.
