On January 26, 2010 the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met with Ambassador of the United States in Ukraine John F. Tefft.
Ambassador Tefft congratulated Ukrainians on the successful conduct of the first round of Presidential elections, which were free and transparent. He noted that this became yet another convincing demonstration of the development of democracy in Ukraine. Ambassador Tefft noted that the United States was looking forward to a similarly successful conduct of the runoff election on February 7.
The parties also discussed the agreements reached during the working visit of Minister Petro Poroshenko to the United States (December 9-12, 2009). In particular, they discussed conducting the Second Session of the Ukraine-U.S. Commission on Strategic Partnership in spring of this year, as well as further meetings of the existing bilateral mechanisms of cooperation, in particular the Trade and Investments Council, the Working Group on Non-Proliferation and Export Control, the Working Group on Energy Security etc.
