On September 5, the draft report on visa-free regime for Ukraine was presented at the European Parliament Committee on Civil liberties Justice and Home affairs (LIBE) with the participation of Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Olena Zerkal. The document, prepared by the EP rapporteur Mariya Gabriel, says that Ukraine has fulfilled all the criteria of the Visa liberalization Action Plan (VLAP) and contains the recommendation to abolish visas for Ukrainian citizens.
During the discussion, the majority of the Committee members supported the conclusions of the report and spoke in favor of granting Ukraine visa-free regime.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine O.Zerkal in her speech presented the main achievements of Ukraine in the implementation of VLAP, noting in particular the successful introduction of biometric passports, progress in fight against corruption and implementation of the criteria concerning border management.
It is expected that up to 15 September EP political groups will make their proposals for amendments to the draft report, and then it will be put to the vote at the level of LIBE Committee.
