On July 22 the Special Representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa Mr.Y.Mykytenko received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Ukraine H.E. Mr.Yasser Atef at his request

During the meeting both sides discussed the latest developments in the Middle East and North Africa region, in particular, the recent internal political changes that took place in Egypt in connection with the democratic processes that are holding sway over this arab country.

In this context, Mr.Y. Mykytenko welcomed the formation on July 21 this year the new government of Egypt, expressing hope that this event will intensify the ukrainian-egyptian political dialogue as well as trade and economic cooperation.

Special attention during the meeting had been focused on the current situation in Libya, as well as prospects for the resumption of direct Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. The sides highlighted the cooperation between Ukraine and Egypt within the UN and other international organizations.

The parties also underlined the preservation of positive dynamics of bilateral trade despite the massive political and economic changes which Egypt is whitnessing starting from January this year. In this regard, the sides underscored the necessity of intensification of the activity of the Ukrainian-Egyptian Intergovernmental Commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation.
