Within the framework of an official visit to Georgia on July 14 Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostyantyn Gryshchenko met with President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili in Batumi.
The parties expressed their readiness for the further development of the political dialogue, as well as reciprocal interestedness in making bilateral relations more pragmatic through deepening cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, in particular through participation of the two countries’ companies in scaled projects in Ukraine and Georgia.
Messrs Gryshchenko and Saakashvili have come to an agreement to hold a regular session of the joint intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation soon at the level of vice prime ministers.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the President of Georgia discussed cooperation within the framework of international organizations and noted the high level of collaboration between Ukraine and Georgia at that level.
The parties talked about the internal political and economic situations in the countries, touched on the issues of the development of infrastructure projects in Ukraine in the context of holding Euro-2012 and the infrastructure of the city of Batumi.
Foreign Minister Gryshchenko briefed President Saakashvili about the process of economic reforms in Ukraine, stressing on the invariability of the European integration course of official Kyiv as its key foreign political priority. In his turn, the Georgian President highly estimated Ukraine’s dynamics in the area of European integration.
K.Gryshchenko and M.Saakashvili also discussed topical issues of the international agenda and exchanged their opinions on the countries’ cooperation on the international arena with a view of searching ways and mechanisms of settlement of the existing protracted conflicts.
