12 July 2011-There has been taken a decision in principle by donors of the Nuclear Safety Account and the Chernobyl Shelter Fund to provide Ukraine with funds necessary for the implementation of Chernobyl projects. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostyantyn Gryshchenko informed President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych on it in a meeting in the Crimea, when reporting on the results of the Donor Assembly meeting of Chernobyl Forum held on the 7th of July at the headquarters of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London.
‘There are finally taken the political decisions to make us say with certainty that the issue of fund raising for a ‘Shelter’ construction is decided "- said Mr.Gryshchenko.
The Minister also said that such a fundamental decision was to make a Chernobyl funds budget (the "Shelter" and the Nuclear Safety Account) deficit-free and it provided us with the opportunity to start a full-scale implementation of Chernobyl projects and complete this work by 2015.
"What is important to us is that it is this year when we can start constructing a Shelter engineering project which is of crucial importance to secure Kyiv, Ukraine, and the world against the health risks posed by the Chernobyl catastrophe consequences", -underlined the Minister.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Minister of Ukraine mentioned about a range of issues requiring additional official registration.
Mr. Gryshchenko emphasised that the decision taken in London was the result of the work of the MFA of Ukraine in several countries done by order of the President.
Within this context Mr. Gryshchenko reiterated that Ukraine earlier managed to achieve "a significant result" - to get additional funds from a number of countries. "It was a large amount of contributed funds", - noted the head of the MFA.
Reference. The total amount of funds required for the Chernobyl project completion is 740 million euros.
