On February 2, Andrii Melnyk, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine held an online meeting with Ms. Rhoda M. Jackson, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
Andrii Melnyk expressed his gratitude to The Bahamas for supporting Ukraine within the UN in the context of countering Russian aggression; he also briefed his counterpart on the current situation in our country, in particular with regard to ongoing missile attacks on cities and villages of Ukraine, as well as against its critical infrastructure.
The Deputy Foreign Minister elaborated on key elements of the Peace Formula Plan, initiated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and called on The Bahamas to join this peace initiative, based on the UN Charter principles.
Rhoda M. Jackson reconfirmed that support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine remains a matter of principle for The Bahamas; she also promised to consider the possibility of involvement of The Bahamas in the Peace Formula.
The parties agreed to continue an active bilateral dialogue in order to support the initiatives of both countries within the framework of the UN, primarily in the context of climate change and its catastrophic consequences for the island states.
Counterparts discussed the prospects of deepening Ukraine-CARICOM cooperation, given the current chairmanship of The Bahamas in this important regional community.
The sides agreed to maintain close working contacts. Andrii Melnyk invited his colleague Rhoda M. Jackson to visit Ukraine.
