On February 3, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Melnyk held an online meeting with Vice Minister of Bilateral Affairs and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Costa Rica Lydia María Peralta Cordero.
The interlocutors exchanged views on the current topics on the Ukrainian-Costa-Rican bilateral agenda and discussed the ways of further advancing cooperation between the two states, in particular in the framework of international organizations.
It was noted that the telephone conversation between the leaders of the countries - President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of Costa Rica Rodrigo Chavez – gave a strong impetus to the development of the bilateral relations.
Andrii Melnyk expressed his gratitude to Costa Rica for supporting Ukraine within the framework of the UN in the context of countering Russian aggression and informed his counterpart about the current situation in our country, regarding Russian invasion.
The Deputy Minister urged Costa Rica to join the implementation of the Peace Formula initiated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
L.M. Peralta Cordero reaffirmed the principled support by Costa Rican leadership for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and emphasized that the issue of peaceful settlement should be resolved within the framework of the UN.
It was agreed to maintain working contacts and to hold political consultations between the foreign services of the two states at the level of deputy ministers over the course of this year. Andrii Melnyk invited his collegue to visit Kyiv.
The parties also discussed the issue of renewing the bilateral trade and economic cooperation. Andrii Melnyk urged the Costa Rican side to consider the possibility of receiving Ukrainian children who suffered from the Russian aggression for medical treatment and rehabilitation
