On Friday, 23 January, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha held an online meeting with Members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine – members of the Permanent Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) - ahead of the first part of the 2026 PACE session, which will begin on 26 January.
During the meeting, the parties coordinated positions on key items of the PACE agenda in the context of Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.
“The council of Europe, in particular the Parliamentary Assembly, is one of the leading multilateral mechanisms of political and legal influence, playing an important role in upholding the fundamental principles of international law and ensuring Russia’s accountability for violations of international obligations,” the Minister noted.
The Foreign Minister also emphasized the need to continue active engagement with partners to launch and ensure the effective functioning of international mechanisms for holding the Russian Federation legally accountable, including the Special Tribunal on the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine, the Register of Damage for Ukraine, and the International Compensation Commission for Ukraine.
Andrii Sybiha thanked the Members of Parliament for their close cooperation and active promotion of Ukraine’s national interests within the PACE platform, highlighting the importance of coordinating parliamentary and traditional diplomacy efforts across international forums.
