Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha: "I had a fruitful call with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.  

I briefed him on the consequences of Russia’s missile and drone attack last night and updated him on our most urgent air defence needs. We discussed practical ways for partners to help close Ukraine’s sky, with a particular focus on strengthening our protection ahead of winter. 

I thanked Germany for its continued leadership in supporting Ukraine and for Johann’s recent visit to Kyiv and other regions. German support remains critical to our defence and resilience, particularly as Russia once again seeks to weaponise the coming winter. 

We also discussed Ukraine’s path to EU membership. I appreciate Germany’s support for moving the accession process forward and opening further negotiating clusters. Ukraine is doing its part and we count on decisive steps from the EU side. 

Another key focus was food security and Russia’s attacks in the Black Sea, which threaten the safe functioning of Ukraine’s maritime corridor and food supplies to global markets. We discussed how Germany and other partners can help ensure freedom and security of navigation and prevent Russia from disrupting this vital route. 

We agreed to stay in close contact."
