I informed my Turkish colleague about Russia’s escalation of terror against civilian shipping in the Black Sea. 

Given that Türkiye is the strongest Black Sea power with a successful record in peace efforts since 2022, Ankara can play a critical role in restoring freedom of navigation. 

This is especially important against the backdrop of unacceptable risks to global food security stemming from Russian attacks against Ukraine’s maritime corridor during the peak harvest. 

We spoke about ways to restore freedom of navigation and ensure global food security.
