Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha: “I had a good call with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong.
I briefed my colleague on Russia’s latest massive attack on Ukraine this morning and underscored that sustained international solidarity and pressure on Russia remain essential to achieve a just and lasting peace.
I conveyed Ukraine’s sincere condolences following the horrific terrorist attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney on December 14. We strongly condemn antisemitism in all its forms and stand in full solidarity with Australia and the Jewish community.
Grateful for the Minister’s sympathy regarding six victims of Ukrainian origin, including Boris and Sofia Gurman, a courageous couple who heroically confronted the attacker to protect others. They were both in their 60s and showed the courage to confront the violence, attempting to disarm the murderer.
We appreciate Australia’s unwavering support for Ukraine, particularly its new package of military assistance this month and its contribution to NATO’s PURL initiative.
We coordinated next steps to further strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities and self-sufficiency."
