Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha: "In Tokyo, together with Advisor to President Zelenskyy on strategic affairs Alexander Kamyshin, we held detailed and fruitful negotiations with Minister of Defense Koizumi Shinjiro.
I informed Minister Koizumi about Russia’s large-scale attack against Kyiv and its consequences.
Russian strategic bombers that fired cruise missiles at the sleeping people in Kyiv took off from an airbase in the Amursk region of Russia — not far away from Japan. This further underlines that Russia’s war against Ukraine is not that far away.
The security of Ukraine and Japan, as well as of Europe and the Indo-Pacific, is directly interlinked. Not least through Russia’s deepening involvement of North Korea into its war against Ukraine — and everything that Moscow provides in return.
We spoke in detail about shared security challenges, Ukraine’s unique expertise, and ways to develop our cooperation.
I informed Japan’s Defense Minister about our peace efforts, battlefield dynamics, and Ukraine’s defense industry achievements.
Ukraine stands ready to develop its security partnership with Japan, particularly in the area of advanced drone technologies.
We also discussed the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara, its anticipated outcomes, and further contacts.
I thanked Japan, its government and people, for all the outstanding support for Ukraine since the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion".
