Andrii Sybiha Urged G7 Countries to Increase Pressure on Russia and Ban Entry for Russians Involved in Aggression
27 March 2026 15:25

On Friday, 27 March, in France, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha participated in the "Support for Ukraine" session with the Foreign Ministers of the G7 nations.

Andrii Sybiha informed the partners about the situation in Ukraine following the most difficult winter in history, the further significant increase in Russian battlefield losses, and successful Ukrainian operations to regain control over territories and conduct long-range strikes deep into Russian territory. The Head of the MFA emphasized that Ukrainian air defense intercepts approximately 90% of targets.

"We have entered a phase where the Russian winter terror has been defeated, and Russia is losing over 30,000 occupiers monthly and more territory than it captures," he noted.

According to the Minister, the current period is critical for advancing peace efforts. Further deterioration of Russian positions on the battlefield, the situation in Russian society, and the economy are capable of forcing Moscow to end the war.

In this context, he emphasized that any steps toward easing pressure on Russia are counterproductive. The Ukrainian side expects them to be temporary and swiftly revoked.

Andrii Sybiha recalled the recipe for ending the war: US involvement, increasing the cost of the war for the aggressor, a deterrence package, and support for Ukraine.

The Head of the MFA noted the peace efforts under US leadership and stressed that Ukraine has realistic and effective proposals for advancing the peace process.

He emphasized that increasing the cost of the war for the aggressor must include losses on the battlefield and in the economy, isolation, and accountability. An additional strong step could be a ban on Russian combatants and their family members traveling to G7 countries.

The deterrence package must mean timely and sufficient support — without any pauses — as well as investments in the Ukrainian defense industry and the strengthening of air defense.

Andrii Sybiha stressed that the situations in the Middle East and Europe are directly linked. Moscow assists Iran in sustaining its military efforts and provides not only intelligence but also equipment for attacks on US military personnel and the Gulf states.

"Russia is trying to weaken sanctions and benefit from high oil prices. Putin seeks to prolong not only his war against Ukraine but also the war in the Middle East. For our part, we do not intend to weaken our own pressure — on the contrary, strikes deep into Russia will only intensify. It is only fair that the war returns to where it came from," the Foreign Minister remarked.

The Head of the MFA particularly emphasized the importance of the further effective implementation of the PURL initiative, the swiftest possible unblocking of the EU support package of 90 billion euros, clarity regarding Ukraine's membership in the European Union, and clear security guarantees for our state — legally binding, with the military presence of allies supported by the USA.

The Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to the G7 countries for their support and for ensuring that Ukraine remains a priority.

"Ukraine's recovery and the Prosperity Plan remain on the agenda. We expect a leading role from the G7 countries," the Head of the MFA noted.

The Minister separately emphasized that every act of support for our state and the increased pressure on the aggressor strengthens Ukraine's negotiating positions and brings peace closer.

In their statements, the allies reaffirmed their continued support for Ukraine and the need to maintain and increase pressure on Russia. The G7 countries share the position on the need to prevent Russia from using the escalation in the Middle East in its interests to prolong the war.

The participants of the meeting emphasized the unwavering transatlantic unity in defending the Euro-Atlantic space and supporting Ukraine.
