During the Asian Week, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba of Ukraine held a telephone conversation with the State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi of China.
Minister Kuleba expressed his gratitude to the Chinese Government for humanitarian aid provided for Ukraine to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. A cargo freight with protection suits for medical personnel had arrived at Kyiv that night.
“Ukraine is eager to expand its strategic partnership with China. We have all the means to enrich it with ambitious projects that would culminate in a summit between the heads of our two nations”, stressed Dmytro Kuleba.
The Chinese FM restated that China is set to expand and strengthen its strategic partnership with Ukraine, which could involve the Chinese Belt and Road initiative and stressed that both nations have huge potential for cooperation.
Minister Wang Yi accepted Dmytro Kuleba’s invitation to visit Ukraine and in turn invited him to visit China. Additionally, the Ministers agreed to hold political consultations in Beijing at a level of Deputy Ministers.

Last year, China became Ukraine's biggest trading partner with a record US$12.8 bn turnover.
Previously, Minister Kuleba stressed that Ukraine had great potential to participate in the Belt and Road Initiative not merely as a transit state for Chinese goods to reach EU countries, but as a point of interest for Chinese investors to finance Ukrainian industry to use the country as a manufacturing venue for goods to be sold in the EU.
The Chinese FM’s previous official visit to Ukraine was in 2010.
