Dmytro Kuleba enlists Latvia's support in deterring Russia from a new wave of aggression against Ukraine

The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba met with the Speaker of the Latvian Parliament Ināra Mūrniece and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs during his visit to Riga.

The Minister informed the Latvian side in detail about the security situation in the temporarily occupied territories and along the state border of Ukraine in the context of the threat of a new wave of Russian aggression against our state.

The Latvian Foreign Minister assured his Ukrainian counterpart of Latvia's continued support for Ukraine's integration into the EU and NATO and Riga's readiness to provide practical support to Ukraine in countering Russian aggression and deterring Moscow from further risky military undertakings.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister thanked Latvia for its strong support for Ukraine's sovereignty, territorial integrity and Euro-Atlantic aspirations. He especially thanked the Latvian side for assisting in the treatment of wounded Ukrainian servicemen and providing assistance to Ukrainians affected by the consequences of Russian aggression.

The ministers discussed the practical content of a comprehensive package of deterring Russia from further aggressive actions.

Dmytro Kuleba held a separate meeting with the Speaker of the Latvian Parliament Ināra Mūrniece. The parties discussed the further development of friendly relations between Ukraine and Latvia. The Speaker of the Latvian Parliament expressed condolences to Ukraine on the Holodomor Remembrance Day.

The interlocutors agreed to actively develop inter-parliamentary diplomacy. Dmytro Kuleba expressed special gratitude for the establishment of the Crimean Platform Support Group in the Latvian Parliament and confidence in Latvia's further active participation in the successful development of this format of cooperation.

The Foreign Minister of Ukraine especially thanked the Latvian Parliament for the decision to recognize the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people as genocide. Latvia became the first country in the world to make such a decision.
