On September 2, 2020, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba had a telephone conversation with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Poland Zbigniew Rau.

Dmytro Kuleba and Zbigniew Rau discussed the preparations for Polish President Andrzej Duda’s visit to Ukraine at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelensky, which should further promote political cooperation and serve an opportunity to reach new agreements on a wide range of issues on the agenda of the strategic partnership between Ukraine and Poland.

Dmytro Kuleba pointed out the importance of utilizing every opportunity and platform available in order to promote economic and trade cooperation between Ukraine and Poland in spite of the ongoing COVID pandemic and its negative impact on the economies of both countries. The Ministers endorsed the urgent need to set in the coming weeks a date for a meeting of the Ukrainian-Polish Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.

The Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Poland also expressed a common commitment to continue positively seeking solutions to the shared cultural and historical questions. Dmytro Kuleba noted the importance of achieving progress in fulfilling the earlier agreement to restore the UPA fighters’ burial site on Mount Monastyr near Przemyśl, where they died in 1945 fighting NKVD units. The parties reaffirmed the pledge to put effort into negating the influence of complicated moments of historical past on the present and future good-neighborly Ukrainian-Polish relations.

Zbigniew Rau assured of Poland's continued support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression, and stressed that this issue would become cornerstone during Poland chairing the OSCE in 2022. According to the Polish Minister, the EU sanctions against Russia in response to the occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, as well as certain parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine, need to remain in force until the complete cessation of unlawful actions by the Russian Federation.

The Polish Foreign Minister also confirmed Poland's continued support for Ukraine's European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

The Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Poland reconfirmed their ambition to fill the Lublin Triangle initiative with practical content. They agreed to speed up the preparations for a video conference of Coordinators from the Foreign Ministries of the Triangle’s three countries. Dmytro Kuleba expressed his belief that the format should strengthen its role in Central Europe.

The parties also exchanged views and noted the commonness of positions on the development of the situation in Belarus.
