On 23 November 2020, First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova met Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Ukraine Louis Telemachou.
First Deputy Minister thanked for the Republic of Cyprus’ support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, both at the bilateral level and in the framework of the UN and the EU, including while adopting relative resolutions and decisions.
Emine Dzhaparova briefed Ambassador on the recent developments of the situation in Crimea and invited the Cyprus side to take part in the activities of the initiative «The Crimean Platform». In response, Ambassador gave assurances that the Republic of Cyprus continues to keep its stance of non-recognition of temporary occupation of the Ukrainian peninsula.
Emine Dzhaparova and Louis Telemachou also discussed bilateral cooperation within the framework of international conventions and initiatives with regard to gender equality, eliminating violence against women and preserving world cultural heritage.
Emine Dzhaparova, as the Head of the UNESCO National Commission of Ukraine, handed the letter of invitation over to her colleague from Cyprus calling to join an international flash-mob of video-greetings on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the foundation of UNESCO, initiated by the President of Ukraine.
First Deputy Minister and Ambassador positively noted joint efforts aiming at the intensification of the political dialogue between the countries. Political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Ukraine and Cyprus, which are due to take place in the near time, will allow discuss a wide range of topics with regard to the prospects of further development of Ukraine-Cyprus relations and mutual interaction within the framework of international organizations.
