Today, Ukrainians in Ukraine and in the world celebrate an important day for Ukrainian statehood. 105 years ago, on January 22, the Ukrainian People's Republic and the Western Ukrainian People's Republic were reunited, forming a single state.
"From now on, the people of Ukraine, liberated by a robust impulse of their own power and with the united efforts of their sons, have the opportunity to build an indivisible, independent Ukrainian state for the well-being and happiness of all its working people." This was stated in the text of the Directory's IV Universal, proclaimed on January 22, 1919.
The IV Universal and the Act of Unification were significant milestones on the path to the formation of the Ukrainian political nation, representing the embodiment of the eternal aspirations of Ukrainians to live in their own cathedral, independent and sovereign state.
The unity and indivisibility of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, along with the consolidation of the global Ukrainian community in the struggle for our state's independence and European future, remain the primary priorities of our foreign policy.
Ukraine is defending these values today in the face of Russia's armed aggression against our country. The consolidation of efforts by all Ukrainians is the most powerful weapon that guarantees our inevitable victory and the restoration of territorial integrity.
