On 21 December, Special Representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa Maksym Subkh received Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Ukraine Hadi Nasser Mansour Al-Hajri. Qatar became the first member state of the Gulf Cooperation Council to resume full-fledge operation of its diplomatic mission in Kyiv after the full-scale invasion of Russia in February 2022.

During the conversation, the parties discussed ways to intensify and further develop bilateral cooperation in the political, trade, economic, educational, and humanitarian spheres. The Ambassador introduced the Qatari vision for the implementation of specific measures and projects of bilateral cooperation in the upcoming year.

For his part, Maksym Subkh expressed his gratitude to the Qatari side for its firm support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within the framework of the UN General Assembly during the voting of relevant resolutions, as well as through the participation of the Qatari delegation in the consultations of diplomatic and security advisors on the implementation of the Peace Formula.

The Ukrainian diplomat emphasized that Ukraine highly appreciated the Qatari efforts to return the Ukrainian children, who were illegally deported by Russia, back to Ukraine and expressed readiness to further coordination of practical steps in this matter. The Special Representative also thanked Qatar for its readiness to participate in the implementation of several humanitarian projects in Ukraine aimed at improving the lives of Ukrainians in the face of full-scale Russian armed aggression.

The parties discussed Qatar's participation in the "Grain from Ukraine" humanitarian initiative. The Ukrainian diplomat expressed gratitude to the government of Qatar for allocating funds to purchase grain for African countries in need.

The diplomats exchanged views on the development of the situation in the Middle East in the context of the ongoing armed conflict in the Gaza Strip. Maksym Subkh thanked the Qatari side for assistance in the evacuation of Ukrainian citizens from the Gaza Strip.
